The steel floor beam system is a crucial and widely used structural component in civil and industrial steel works. While there are numerous books and textbooks covering the basic theory and practical instructions for calculating and designing this structural system, some important aspects remain unaddressed or inadequately detailed. Currently, the calculation diagrams used for steel slabs tend to be simplistic and overly conservative, often leading to material wastage. There is a need for more efficient calculation diagrams. One proposed solution is to use built-up section secondary beams instead of traditional hot-rolled I-section steel profiles, which offers several advantages in terms of production and application. As the construction industry adapts to international standards, there have been updates to the design, manufacturing, production, and testing criteria. However, these new standards are not always reflected in existing literature. This article aims to highlight the modifications and updates in current design standards, focusing on material savings and the modernization of standards for manufacturing, production, and testing.
