Vietnam’s Legal Construction Classification and Its BIM Integration Potential

This study examines the structure and purpose of Vietnam’s construction classification system under Circular 06/2021/TT-BXD and assesses its compatibility with BIM-based standards such as Uniclass 2015 and IFC. Using a multi-dimensional comparative approach, the research identifies key gaps in hierarchy, coding, and classification logic. A preliminary mapping test highlights both alignments and mismatches between Vietnam’s system and international counterparts. Based on the findings, the study proposes an integrated architecture comprising a parallel technical classification, an official mapping scheme, and pilot implementation in public BIM projects. The research contributes to the development of legal–technical interoperability frameworks in support of digital transformation in construction.
