This paper explores the potential of applying Building Information Modelling (BIM) to enhance risk management effectiveness in construction investment projects in Vietnam. By combining a review of specialized literature with field surveys conducted at selected construction enterprises, the study focuses on three key areas: (1) the integration of BIM into risk identification and control processes; (2) stakeholders' awareness and perceptions of BIM as a supportive tool for risk management; and (3) technical and organizational barriers that hinder effective BIM implementation in practice. The findings indicate that in the Vietnamese context, BIM is still predominantly utilized during the design phase, while its functionalities related to risk management remain underutilized. This reflects both a lack of technological capability and insufficient interdisciplinary coordination among project participants. Based on these insights, the study proposes several recommendations to foster more comprehensive BIM integration throughout the project lifecycle, including: enhancing digital competencies of implementation teams, establishing standardized cross-disciplinary collaboration protocols, and developing a robust data infrastructure to support risk identification, assessment, and control in a BIM-enabled environment.
